part 1: cut & sew - san leandro, ca
the tèmi down-insulated anorak is made entirely in the east bay, california, usa, from design and pattern-making to cutting, sewing, down filling, and quilting.
part 1: cut & sewpart 2: down-fill & quiltEvery step takes place within 50-miles of Berkeley and Oakland, including San Leandro and San Jose. With so few technical manufacturers remaining in the United States, the only way Tèmi could make this piece at all, and make it locally, was to produce it across multiple local workshops.
This is what it looks like when place, people, and purpose are treated as one.
producing a technical down anorak across multiple local workshops is complex.
shells are cut and sewn in san leandro in size- and fabric-specific batches. each shell is engineered into sealed chambers designed to accept precision down-fill without leakage or migration. final down filling and quilting are completed in san jose, where the jacket is sealed, finished, and made ready for use.
